UNIVERSITY

Since September 2006 the Government and universities have been operating a new system of funding for students. Most courses now incur fees of over £3,000 per year. However, to compensate for this, students can take out loans to cover all of the fees which do not have to be paid back until they have finished university. There are also significant Maintenance grants available from the Government and bursaries from universities. It is very important that new students do not miss out on any of the funding available to them. To ensure that students are considered for a university bursary both they and their parents must sign the relevant declarations on the Student Finance Form PN1.

As well as all the government and university funding, students might be eligible to receive a RMTGB Scholarship of over £1,000 per annum (over £1,500 for some courses), paid as a lump sum at the beginning of each academic year.

Other grants can be paid towards specific expenses, such as course equipment if, for example, a student is taking a course in art and needs to buy materials. Grants for computer equipment and educational visits may also be considered.
