CASE STUDIES

As a result of an accident at work the father suffered severe damage to his back. He now also suffers from depression and is unable to gain employment. His wife works part time to supplement the limited family income. There are two young children, a son who is musically gifted and a daughter who is a talented ballerina.

In this particular instance, support is provided towards the cost of boarding school education in order to relieve the pressure on the family and enable the children to maximise their potential.

The family lived in Zambia, the Mother and Father both suffered from severe illness before their deaths within 8 months of each other. They had two sons.

The boys have no relatives in Zambia. The Lodge and District stepped in and, acting “in loco parentis”, made an approach to the Trust to assist with their education.

Rather than removing them from the only environment they have known, the Trust is now working with the District and Lodge to educate the boys in Zambia.

The Freemason father of the family was a schoolteacher and the family resided in school accommodation. Shortly after conceiving their second child the Father was diagnosed as suffering from lung cancer.

Four weeks after the birth of his daughter the father died leaving the mother to find alternative accommodation and bring up her two children alone. The mother who had previously been employed full-time was required to reduce her working hours in order to care for her children.

The Trust recognised the urgent need to assist this family and now provides a grant towards the cost of school fees and childcare.
